Black Deer Festival
Over the last five years SupaJam students have run their own stage at the multi award winning Black Deer Festival.
This unique integrated work experience for all our students allows our RSL music business syllabus to migrate from the classroom to the real world and trigger aspiration and desire to progress after SupaJam.
Since 2018, SupaJam students have gained work experience through the Black Deer Festival, working in roles such as Artist Liaison, Photography and Journalism, Live Sound Engineering and even as performers!
Every year this is cited as one of the highlights of SupaJam by students, staff, and parents.
Students support in many aspects of the festival before the event, from designing SupaJam merchandise and posters, to engaging in workshops from industry professionals and musicians who attend as guest speakers to the bases. Skills and roles in the industry are explored and demonstrated, and students have the opportunity to practise these within SupaJam during their lessons.
Watch the following videos to see when country artistry Sonia Leigh came all the way from Nashville, Tennessee to hold song writing master classes and jam with our amazing young people before headlining the SupaJam stage at that years festival.
And in 2019 when the pandemic hit and Black Deer was cancelled SupaJam put on its very own socially distanced White Hart music festival to still provide integrated work experience for our students!
Leading up to Black Deer all our students are involved in lessons and work shops from artists and visiting industry professionals. These include how to book artists for a festival with Bev Burton, stage management with Emma Reynolds and the art of music promotion by Black Deer promoter Gill Tee.

"I cannot begin to explain in a few words what SupaJam means to me. Ite feel me with such joy to see how the students develop and grow as people during their time at college. It is an absolute privilege to be able to involve the students in Black Deer, where they play such an important part."
